AL-HAFOOF: Almost one-third of fire incidents in the country are due to flaws and shortcomings in the electricity system, according to Col. Mansour Al-Dosari of the Civil Defense in the Eastern Province.
These failings include poor quality work and substandard products, Al-Dosari added.
“It is important to have equipment that meets the specifications and not to overload electric connections,” he was quoted as saying by local media on Monday.
He also suggested the people to disconnect unnecessary devices and switch off lights mainly while sleeping.
Al-Dosari urged citizens to follow instructions by the Civil Defense related to smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, and give instructions to family members, as this is important for their life.
He stressed the importance of using qualified men for electrical works and quality equipment that conforms to the specifications.
“Watching children around the clock and keeping dangerous things like lighters, matches, medicines and sharp devices away from them is very important.”
