JEDDAH: The Ministry of Social Affairs has asked all its branches across the regions and provinces to begin an inventory of all the orphans (boys and girls) registered at charities across the Kingdom and provide medical insurance to those not covered.

Abdullah Muaiqeel, undersecretary at the Ministry for Social Affairs, called on all the branches of the ministry to communicate with the charities that fall under its supervision and which care for orphans, to count the numbers of male and female orphans who have no medical insurance and submit the findings directly to the director of the department of social responsibility.

He stressed the need for attaching the birth certificate or ID card of the concerned orphan, as well as a letter from the charity certified with the seal of the ministry’s branch or office for those who have no identification papers.

On another issue, the ministry has identified the requirements for the program to support the children of orphans of over 18 years who seek help to purchase a car.

The ministry said there are eight requirements for extending assistance, including that the applicant should at least be 18 years of age, have a valid car driving license and in need of a vehicle, a resident of the charity, enrolled in undergraduate study, and employed after graduation.

The ministry revealed it has approved granting the children of orphans in the Eastern Province a one-time financial assistance of SR30,000.
