As many 18,255 cases were filed in Saudi courts in a month, 85 percent of which were related to rights issues, according to data released by the Ministry of Justice.

A total of 7,387 cases were filed in Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah and Dammam, data carried by local media showed.

An earlier report said Saudi courts in major cities received 201,903 cases over the last five months. On a monthly basis, the month of Safar registered the highest number of cases at 41,064, followed by Muharram (39,282), Rabie Al-Thani (38,555), Rabie Al-Awwal (36,586), and Jumada Awwal (34,971).

Meanwhile, the ministry has embarked on the construction of 33 courts in Riyadh at a cost of SR870 million. The court projects will be completed within two years where local and global firms were consulted, Saad Al-Hazmi, the head of projects department at the ministry, said.

Al-Hazmi stressed that the ministry was keen on speedy completion of these projects and that they have ordered contractors to put an electronic board in front of each project to show the progress of work and complete the projects on time.
