Asir Municipality has set up 200 Ramadan stalls where families sell traditional food to citizens and buyers can purchase various products. More than 3,000 visitors come to check out the various stalls everyday, according to sources.

Abdulaziz Al-Qahtani, a supervisor with the Asir Municipality, explained that the municipality had organized the event in Ramadan and divided an open area into four with each section reserved for a particular interest such as food, handmade materials, agricultural products and for productive families selling their products.

“More importantly, the municipality has obliged the sellers to provide them with licenses and health certified products,” he said.

He added: “Ramadan stalls were a popular feature in Abha for many years but now visitors can also visit Asir to try out the traditional bread and food such as Haneath and Helba.”

He added that the location of the Ramadan stalls had made it easy for visitors to access the products. “There are four different routes you can take to reach the place,” he said adding that the women had prepared a wide variety of traditional food for the event which was reaping a lot of economic benefits.

Event supervisor, Abdullah Ali Mubarak said: “The municipality was keen on dividing the areas equally for citizens to enjoy selling their goods in an open space without paying any fees. Moreover, the municipality did not overlook the health aspect and ensured that all the products are safe for the consumer.”

He said that there were more than eight inspection teams responsible for supervising the shops during peak times and checking to see if there were any violations. “They also warn families selling unauthorized products,” he added.

Asir Gov. Prince Faisal bin Khalid praised the efforts of the regional secretary, Ibrahim Al-Khalid and applauded his efforts in providing families with the well-organized stalls, supporting the activities and teaching them to market their products.
