Mavra, a Riyadh-based women’s literary and cultural organization, celebrated Pakistan Defense Day, aimed at paying tribute to the country’s armed forces.

In the first part of the event, bravery, deeds and sacrifices of Pakistan armed forces were recalled while in the second the hot issue of the day was discussed.

Different speakers presented their thoughts and feelings on “Chatt mangni, patt biyah; chatt khul’aa putt talaq” (Immediate engagement and marriage, and then immediate divorce.’

The program, which was conducted by the stage secretary Tehmina Jabeen, started with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Warda Qureshi. Patriotic songs were presented in a very professional way and speeches delivered by Fouzia Manual, Shahnaz Qureshi, Asma Arshad, Warda Qureshi, Farah Shameem, Tehseen and Nadia. A documentary was also presented for the guests.

Some of the speakers narrated their family experiences regarding Defense Day of Pakistan and explained its importance. They recalled the dedication of the forces for the defense and dignity of the country.

The purpose to celebrate such days is to create awareness of the nation about its history so that they may remember the heroic feats. No doubt the repetition of history is good to keep the patriotism alive.

Nadia Anwar presented a tableau as the grandmother of a martyr. She was holding the country’s flag and telling how she sent her sons and then their sons to protect the geographical and ideological boundaries of her beloved Pakistan.

She also committed that till the last breath of her life, she will keep on telling the new generation the importance of the country. Her presentation was so touching that the whole house was calm and gloomy.

In the second part, speakers condemned the emotional decisions made by the youth to break marital bonds.

All the participants promised to work against such sentimentality in the society and the family as well.

Chief guest Idem Amir paid tribute to the armed forces and appreciated the program in her own words.

Mavra President Tasneem Amjad expressed gratitude to all participants and conveyed the message of Mavra Chairperson Tabassum Mohsin Alvi.
