The Pakistan Executive Group (PEG) organized a health care program for its members to raise awareness on the importance of improving dietary habits.
Pakistan Consul General Aftab Ahmed Khokher participated in the function, which was presided over by PEG President Mutahir Rizvi and attended by scores of prominent community members.
PEG Vice-President Javed Khan said 80 percent of chronic diseases such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol are linked to modern lifestyle and that such disorders can be prevented or delayed by changing habits.
Javed said that diabetes can be prevented among males and females through regular exercise and diet control. He also stressed on disorders associated with obesity and emphasized that such disorders may be more harmful than smoking.
He presented guidelines for regular medical check-up to detect diseases at the early stages. He pointed out that early detection and treatment can make a difference in prognosis and recommended screening measures for common ailments in both males and females.
Javed highlighted the harmful effects of prevalent sedentary lifestyle and stressed on the role of exercise and diet for healthy living.
He warned against the high caloric content of several traditional Pakistani foods and dispelled commonly held health myths.
