JEDDAH: Three Pakistani Umrah pilgrims and a bus driver have been killed in a road accident that took place on the Makkah-Madinah highway on Friday. The accident also caused eleven injures.
The Pakistanis were on their way to perform Umrah in Makkah, according to a media report.
Spokesman for the Traffic Department in Makkah Col. Basem Al-Badri said primary investigations revealed that the accident happened when the bus driver lost control of the vehicle when a tire blew out. All tires of the bus were later found worn out.
Red Crescent ambulance teams transferred the injured pilgrims to hospitals in Makkah. Eight of the injured are now in a stable condition.
Col. Al-Badri cited the incident to stress the importance of updating and changing vehicle tires to avoid blowouts. He also said that a committee has been formed by the Traffic Department and Makkah police to formally investigate the causes of the accident.
