A reception was held in Riyadh recently hosted by Pakistani doctor couple — Dr. Mansour Memon and Dr. Erum Qalbani — where prominent Pakistanis and several diplomats spoke on various issues. The aim of the gathering was to promote a soft image of Pakistan among the diplomats. The diplomats who attended the event included Ambassador of Hungary Miklos Kallay; Ambassador of Thailand Wijak Chittarat; Deputy Ambassador of Portugal Carlos Oliveria; US Charge d'Affaires Timothy Lenderking; and US Military and Political Counselor Ken Forder.

In informal discussions the participants expressed their satisfaction over the successful and smooth Haj and praised the excellent arrangements made by the Saudi authorities for the pilgrims.

Malala Yousafzai's courage and determination to work for education in Pakistan also came up for discussion. The participants admired her boldness and her role for education of girls in Pakistan.

US Charge d'Affaires Timothy Lenderking expressed his appreciation for the Memon couple and acknowledged their services in projecting a better image of Pakistan in the circles of his international friends.

Khalid Mahmood Choudhry — chairman Pakistan Investors Forum-Riyadh — represented the Pakistani business community at the gathering.

Prof. Muhammad Tanveer, the principal of Pakistan International School (English Section) in Riyadh, spoke about the services rendered by international schools in Riyadh.

The Memons spoke about the achievements Pakistanis were making in different fields. Later they presented ajraks — the traditional Sindhi shawls — to all the guests.
