JEDDAH: Palestine Consul General Mohammed Yahya Assadi praised the Kingdom’s longstanding record of support for the Palestinian cause, which has been one of the entrenched constants of the Kingdom’s policies since the era of the founder, King Abdul Aziz.
Talking to Arab News, Assadi expressed his deep appreciation for the position of Saudi Arabia in support of Palestine, as the leadership and people of Palestine are behind the Kingdom’s stance against all types of terrorism and violence.
He said the people of Palestine have had a long and strong relationship with the Kingdom. For 60 years, Saudi Arabia always supported their rights and helped Palestine in difficult times.
This relationship will continue, he said.
Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet this month reiterated its continued support for Palestinian refugees, stressing that assisting refugees was a religious and humanitarian duty.
The Cabinet also voiced its support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, UNRWA, in its efforts to achieve humanitarian objectives and work to provide care to more than 5 million Palestinians.
The Saudi support for the Palestinian cause has been constant right from the beginning all the way down to the current reign of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.
The Kingdom supported the Palestinian cause at all levels: political, economic, and social. Approximately half a million Palestinians live in the Kingdom, enjoying safety and security. Palestinians mostly work in professions such as medicine, engineering and accountancy.
The consul general stressed the fact that the Palestinian leadership consistently calls on the international community, especially the Security Council, to carry out its obligations about respect for international law, in order to stop Israeli violations and crimes against the Palestinian people, and to recover all legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent state with Al-Quds as its capital.
