TABUK: Parents will not be allowed to enter classrooms to meet teachers beginning the next academic year, an official has said.

“The Education Ministry will allocate a separate office for parents in every school across the Kingdom from the next academic year. These offices will provide all necessary services and answers to questions after parents confirm their identities to school administrators,” Majed Al-Harbi, general supervisor of security and safety at the Ministry of Education, has been quoted as saying by local media.

School administrators and directors have been tasked with working in these offices, and they will allow parents and visitors to meet with teachers to inquire about the status of their children, obtain letters or certificates or for any other purpose, he said.

Educators and teachers expressed their happiness with the decision after waiting so long, especially in view of cases of assault on teachers in schools, as well as for the inconvenience caused by the parents and guardians visiting classrooms, the report said.

Parents entering the classroom with a grievance or to discuss about the child’s studies is a major distraction for other students, said an expert. “The best thing is to have a separate meeting room and fixed timings for parents to meet teachers.”
