The Eastern Province Municipality recently embarked on a mission to establish the infrastructure for exercise and entertainment activities for persons with special needs within the community, under the banner of its general social responsibility toward the community at large, and particularly for persons with special needs among them. The mayor of the Eastern Province, Fahad bin Mohammed Al-Jubeir, said in a statement the municipality had installed various entertainment games and activities for such persons at Safa and Rakah parks.

“We intend to include all parks, sea fronts and coasts in this project,” said Al-Jubier.

He confirmed that as part of the municipality’s responsibility for all entertainment locations in the region, it noticed that some families bring members who suffer from various handicaps. “We put such an observation under thorough study and concluded that some persons with special needs cannot use the facilities that other children play on. So we discussed the matter with consultant bodies to find a suitable solution to enable these citizens to enjoy their play by developing suitable games for them,” explained the mayor.

“Such a move will realize the objectives of the municipality, which involve integrating persons with special needs with other member of the community, and changing their role from just watching what is going on around them, to involving them in the games with ease and safety,” he added.
