After performing their pilgrimage to the holy sites, pilgrims are preparing to return to their home countries by purchasing gifts and artifacts that remind them of the Holy Places they visited.

Arab News spoke to a group of Indian pilgrims to better understand their views on their trip as they returned home.

Initially, pilgrim Ahmed Ansari said, “after performing Haj, we had a lot of free time to do other things. We did not face any difficulties in performing the rituals of Haj, because we have had so much help from the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The program was to visit the historical sites and known mosques. Now, it’s time to get ready for the trip home. I bought gifts, dates and some haberdashery, as well as various items from clothing stores.”

Pilgrim Mohammed Zain A-Dine said, “Madinah’s gifts are different, and because of this, everyone is keen to buy their gifts from the Prophet’s city, such as Ajwah dates, Al-Safawi and Al-Ambarh dates and some other well-known dates. Some people prefer gemstone and silver accessories, though.”

Pilgrim Shihab Al-Islam said, “Some pilgrims bring gifts from Makkah, like Zamzam water. During the visit to Madinah, they buy beads, dates, rugs and accessories. I haven’t bought any of these larger things, but I did buy some light gifts so I can carry them. I only bought perfumes and light accessories.”
