JEDDAH: Pilgrims will begin to start heading to the holy site of Mina in the next few hours as Haj begins.
Mansour Al-Turki, spokesman for the Interior Ministry, said security officials are moving to the next phase of operations ensuring that all hajis reach Mina safely.
In the first of daily public announcements, Al-Turki said that the heaviest traffic of pilgrims is expected around 5am on Saturday morning.
For many this is a moment of a lifetime as they undertake several gruelling days across a number of holy locations in and around Makkah.
Pilgrims are expected to spend all day Saturday in Mina before heading south to Arafat for the climax of the Haj. Over a million foreign pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia to partake in the Haj, which is incumbent on every muslim once in their life if they are able to do so.
