JEDDAH: While school students were preparing for the exams beginning Sunday, the Education Ministry and the Traffic Department were also gearing up, although in a different way.
The ministry drew up a seven-point plan for students’ safety with special focus on the practice of drifting by some pupils soon after writing their answer papers.
Educational directorates in the middle and western regions have been directing their schools to implement the plan in letter and spirit, a local newspaper has reported, quoting sources.
“Relying on past experiences, the education directorates are taking no chances in ensuring the safety and integrity of students, and are taking all necessary measures to stop any actions by them after exams that could harm their wellbeing, such as car drifting,” the sources said.
The ministry and the Traffic Department have entered a pact on installing road obstacles in open spaces near schools to make it more difficult for students to gather and take part in drifting, said the report.
Cops in plain clothes will be deployed in some schools to monitor any violation of the law. Additionally, parents have also been urged to discourage their children from indulging in drifting after the exams.
The ministry will adopt seven evaluation indicators to monitor the performance of schools across the Kingdom from the beginning of the next academic year, said Abdul Rahman Al-Barak, undersecretary for boys’ education.
