An Arab con man has been arrested by the criminal investigation division of Jeddah police.

The man would contact citizens claiming he is an employee of a Saudi company, which has been contracted by the Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC) to distribute electricity to its customers. He would then ask them to transfer money to the account of another person of African nationality, who was his accomplice.

Makkah police spokesman Lt. Col. Ati Al-Qurashi said the man and his accomplice were arrested and further investigations are ongoing. He appealed to citizens not to fall prey to such antics and fraud, and immediately report them to police.

To get any required service, citizens should resort to the official regulatory channels, he stressed.
