A Saudi police officer in Riyadh was stabbed to death by an unknown assailant on his way to the mosque to perform the morning prayers on the first day of Eid.

Col. Fawaz Al-Meiman, Riyadh police spokesman, refused to disclose any details into the incident.

“Investigative authorities have stipulated that we don’t divulge any information into the case as of yet,” he said.

The victim had published a Tweet greeting his followers on the advent of Eid just before his death.

Electronic websites had published an official statement made by an official at the establishment where the victim used to work.

A military officer, who was the victim’s friend, says the motive for the murder has yet to be determined and that such cases are referred to public security agencies for follow-up.

“My friend was an investigative officer at a military unit who was well-loved by his colleagues,” he said.
