JUBAIL: Popular cafés in Jubail are doing a roaring business during Ramadan compared to the rest of the year.
Going to cafés after the Taraweeh prayer and spending time there watching television, eating Ramadan desserts and drinks, and chatting with friends all night long is a Ramadan tradition here.
Many cafés have made extensive arrangements to attract and accommodate huge numbers of customers during Ramadan through designing decorations commensurate with Saudi culture and heritage.
Muhammad Al-Harthi said: “I used to spend time with my friends after Taraweeh prayer at such popular cafés to enjoy Ramadan nights, drinking tea and coffee, which have a different taste from one place to another.”
Hussam Al-Hussain said that many Saudi youths go to popular cafés during Ramadan nights to discuss topics of common interest and enjoy traditional food and drinks.
Meanwhile, social researchers have said that Gulf society, as a whole, is characterized by organizing regular meetings whether during the holy month of Ramadan or during vacations, and cafés are considered the main place of such friendly meetings as a way of affection.
