JEDDAH: A group of youths who have completed their graduation under the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Scholarship Program has launched an electronic portal to help their peers connect with employers in government and private sectors in the Kingdom.
In addition to the portal — jahiz.moe.gov.sa — the group launched a smartphone application to facilitate reaching the portal, local media reported Friday.
“The idea came after a year of my graduation. I worked in three companies and discovered the need for staff with higher education and international universities. Many graduates are unemployed despite their qualifications because of the communication gap,” Husam Al-Darwish, founder of the employment portal, was quoted as saying.
This led Al-Darweesh and a number of his colleagues to launch the portal as an experiment to solve the problem.
Rayan Al-Zahrani, a member of the e-portal launch group, said that demand for national talent is huge. “Every day, we see people complaining about lack of national cadre, which is wrong. This is a result of the fault in communication between graduates and employers,” he said.
“There are many important sectors such as banking and insurance, as well as the retail sectors, which continuously need young people who speak Arabic and English and who are innovative. These qualities are present in the majority of scholarship students,” he said.
The portal will definitely contribute to the Vision 2030 plan in a big way, he added.
More than 200,000 students in Saudi Arabia study in 57 countries under the scholarship program. The program is considered one of the biggest in the world, with more than 60,000 graduates in various specialties since its launch, the newspaper report said.
