JEDDAH: Saudis and residents alike have hailed security officers’ efforts in tackling terrorism after two dramatic incidents on Saturday morning in Jeddah.
The social networking site Twitter was flooded with tweets praising the professionalism of the security operation, which resulted in two militants blowing themselves up after an exchange of fire with security forces in the Al-Harazat district.
Many Twitter users were not surprised about the recent security achievement given the capabilities of the security men thanks to the continuous support of the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif, deputy premier and minister of interior.
The topic made it to Twitter “trending” rankings, with numerous expressions of pride and admiration for the bravery of Saudi security men who are willing to risk their lives for the safety of their country and people.
“Many thanks to the heroes #security_men for their honorable stances in protecting the religion and homeland,” said the prominent Saudi Islamic scholar Dr. Aaidh Al-Qarni (@Dr_alqarnee) in a tweet.
“While sleeping in our warm beds, some are facing a hard time to protect us,” said Sara Al-Abdullah (@sss_abdul).
Meanwhile, many people criticized the renting procedures in the Al-Harazat neighborhood, saying it is full of unlicensed resthouses and random buildings that are occupied by illegals and labor violators.
“How can wanted terrorists rent apartments and resthouses?” wondered Abu Abdullah (@abu_abdullah895).
Many videos of the operation were circulating on Twitter, and there were two that stood out and left a great impact on Saudis.
One shows the residents of the Al-Harazat neighborhood saluting the security officers after the operation, and in the second a baby’s cry is heard in the background right after the two terrorists blew themselves up. A comment to the latter video read: “a baby’s cry shames Jeddah’s terrorists.”
