Several preachers here are using social media to spread information about Ramadan and Islam to young and old locally and worldwide.
Mohammed Nouh, the director of the Qur’an and Dawah department of a local relief organization, said recently they published on social media platforms various Ramadan-related sayings of the Prophet (peace be upon him) video clips and information on the importance of fasting.
“It’s a good way to spread Islamic knowledge and awareness during Ramadan because more than 30 percent of people here use social media. We have more than a thousand likes and many people share our posts. We are looking forward to reaching many more Muslims worldwide.”
He said the organization has also published special online quizzes. “The questions were compiled by highly experienced professors and comply with the local culture and traditions. The objective of this initiative is to bring people together from different regions,” said Nouh.
Another organization is helping people to study the Qur’an online through Facebook and YouTube. Several professionals have been assigned to answer questions from the public on correct Qur’anic pronunciation.
Abdullah Zaheer, social media relations manager, said the organization has invited several Qur’an experts to help handle queries from the public during the holy month of Ramadan. “We already have 10 volunteers registered with us from various regions to help teach the Qur’an online.”
A special section has been arranged for children to learn the Qur’an and history of the prophets. He said the main aim was to teach children in a “fun and exciting” way.
Other organizations have been posting online information for children on the achievements of prominent Muslim personalities.
