The Kingdom’s Education Departments have requested shelters in schools as a precautionary measure for emergencies.

The departments told their offices to provide safety and security departments with school names and the names of the schools’ managing directors for safety reasons.

Schools should provide the nearest safety and security department with a copy of the keys to the schools and data pertaining to the building, they said.

The Eastern Province Municipality had previously allocated sites that were ready to have shelters built in the cities of Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran and Qatif.

The Saudi Aramco Company opened a site spanning an area of 1 million square meter on Dammam-Riyadh highway, with continued coordination between the two branches of the ministries of both Finance and Petroleum and Mineral Resources about the location of shelters in the city of Abqaiq.

Fahad Al-Jubair, secretary of the Eastern Province, said in an earlier statement that the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, Prince Mansour bin Mutaib, agreed to allocate a plot of land of an estimated area of 90,000 square meters.

He also agreed to allocate a land in Alnuairyah some 100 km northern Jubail on an area of 40,000 square meter, and two plots in Hafer Albaten were allocated a total area of 100,000 square meter.

For the rest of the cities and towns, the mayor of the province said that the work is under progress to finalize the areas allocated for shelters. After that, the Minister of Rural Affairs was to give the final approval on the location.

“More areas were allocated in Dammam, Abqaiq, Ras Tanura. We are currently working on finalyzing all procedures for the allocated shelters in Jubail and Khafji,” said Muhammad Al-Sufaian, director of Public Relations and spokesman for the municipality of the Eastern province.
