JEDDAH: The Special Criminal Court in Riyadh on Thursday sentenced three Saudis to two years in jail for participating in riots that occurred at Hair prison in Riyadh four years ago.
The three defendants were convicted of instigating the riots and were each sentenced to two additional years in prison, starting from the completion of their previous sentences.
The case relates to a riot inside the prison in July 2012. The disturbances were contained promptly and the prison authorities investigated those responsible.
In another case, the court sentenced a Saudi man to three years in prison for terrorism.
He was convicted of saving in his computer videos of the Daesh terrorist group and being in illegal possession of a gun, three pistols and bullets, which violated his previous commitment to stay away from suspicious activities.
His three-year sentence, which includes one and a half years for the illegal possession of arms under Article 40 of the Weapons and Arms Law, starts from the date of his detention.
He was slapped with a five-year travel ban after his release.
