JEDDAH: The Ministry of Commerce and Investment has opened an investigation into the firing of a blind employee after 18 years of service at the Taif Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Yusuf Al-Zahrani, the public relations officer at the Taif chamber, told a local publication that many malicious complaints and infringements by the employee resulted in the action.
“The termination of service was based on the provision stipulated in Article 80 and paragraphs 1 and 3 of the labor system. The legal department took the suitable measures against the employee,” he said.
Mohammad Al-Zahrani, the employee, said, “I had asked the chamber to specify the job title and description in addition to the employment degree and the salary ladder, but nobody responded and I was instead fired.” The employee said he then sent a letter to the director of the Taif branch of the ministry and complained against the severe action against him.
The employee said that he is the father of four children and was, on many occasions, “oppressed and unfairly treated,” especially by deducting money from his salary for the insurance account.
“When I referred to the department of insurance at the civil registry, they told me there was no record of subscription. Also, I was fired from the job without the end-of-service compensation.”
The Taif chamber PRO said the employee was promoted and delivered the degree and the new salary ladder he deserved.
