Labor Minister Adel Fakeih said Sunday that his ministry would not adopt any resolution related to the labor market without seeking the opinion of employers and workers.

The ministry has launched a portal named “Maan” (Together) on its website to collect views and proposals of the public on various issues before taking a final decision.

He urged both employers and workers to present their proposals on various draft regulations and issues as well as solutions for various problems. “We have presented 21 draft proposals on the portal for discussion,” the minister said, adding that the portal aims at encouraging public participation in the decision-making process. The move would help all parties to contribute in streamlining the labor market.

“We have appointed a fully dedicated team of experts to follow up on the proposals and views presented by the people,” the minister said.

“We value the business community’s views,” he said. “We’ll look at all proposals in a positive manner.”

He said the move aims at gathering different viewpoints and proposals to reach a sound decision. “Our ministry gives top priority to the community’s participation.”

Ibrahim Badawood, managing director of ALJ Community Initiatives, welcomed the move.

“This will help the ministry understand the advantages and disadvantages of a law before implementing it,” he told Arab News. “I hope other ministries will also set up such portals to seek public opinion on various issues and regulations.”

Omar Abubacker, a business executive, said the move will have a positive impact on the labor market. He urged the Labor Ministry to make the portal available in English for the benefit non-Arab foreign workers.
