Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has warned against fraudulent practices in the capital’s sheep market.

In an awareness newsletter, in the context of the approaching Eid Al-Adha, the RCCI showed some fraudulent acts practiced by some sheep sellers such as raising the sheep meant for sacrifice in a manner to make them look fleshy and attractive to the customers.

When loading the purchased sheep onto the car, some sellers tend to change them with cheaper ones, or some dealers fatten them by feeding them with salt, the RCCI said.

The newsletter also included certain health guidelines for consumers who desire to purchase sheep, detailed information on healthy sheep and their disease symptoms, fraudulent practices of dealers, in addition to benefits of the sheep for sacrifice from the Islamic perspective.

The newsletter also reveals a number of symptoms to show that a sheep may have an illness or fatigue, including loss of appetite, easy removal of wool, cough, and rapid breathing in addition to red or green secretions coming out from the nose and the presence of tumors or abscess.
