The Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu (RCJY) will organize the first international conference and fair on environmental technologies to manage industrial waste.

Some 350 local and foreign experts will attend the event at King Fahad Cultural Center in Yanbu Industrial City, on Nov. 20-21, under the auspices of RCJY Chairman Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Thunayan.

The RCJY chief underscored the importance of the conference and its positive results on the management and preservation of the environment.

He said the conference and fair are considered the first of its kind in the region to look into the risks of industrial waste. “Saudi Arabia and the other GCC countries have realized enormous industrial growth in recent years, which required the introduction of mechanisms to get rid of waste, particularly in the oil and petrochemical sectors,” he told Saudi Press Agency.

He said the RCJY called for the adoption of more strict legislation to deal with issues related to waste in all industries Kingdom-wide. He added that the environment technologies have special importance in the Kingdom as pollution, waste and degradation of natural resources have serious environmental implications on the society.

CEO of RCJY Ala bin Abdullah Nasif said the event would allow researchers, international organizations, decision-makers, industrialists, and academics to explore the latest developments on the management of solid industrial wastes and environment control issues.

He said the event would shed light on the position of Yanbu Industrial City as one of the fastest growing industrial cities in the Kingdom and the Middle East region.

The speakers will touch on a number of issues, including the local and international impact of industrial wastes, green economic development, the creation of effective legislation for waste control, the introduction of viable strategies to minimize waste, the extraction of power from industrial waste, and finding funding sources for waste control, he pointed out.
