JEDDAH: The Jeddah municipality has intensified its efforts for safety, security and cleanliness during the holy month of Ramadan and ordered the restaurants and eateries to display all the information related to food items being served by them.

The civic body has also increase surveillance through cameras in markets to achieve the goal of maintaining hygiene and ensuring quality.

Nasir Al-Matab, assistant secretary at Jeddah municipality, said the civic body will increase the number of supervision teams, observers in charge and surveillance cameras and equipment at commercial places, especially at the fruit and vegetable market, central fish market, slaughterhouses, meat shops, besides restaurants and kitchens.

All the restaurants and eateries will have to display information on the meats of camel, oxen, sheep and goats, in addition to clarity on poultry and fish available with them. Failure to comply with the rules will invite penalties.

The restaurants will also be required to inform customers about the country or origin of the meat, including whether it is frozen or fresh.

The municipality has issued a circular in this regard to the sub-municipalities to follow the guidelines and submit reports on restaurants and eateries.

The municipality will take these measures to provide better services to citizens and prevent fraud and irregularities.

The civic body guides the restaurants in the city on using best products, besides providing information on suppliers to improve quality of service and food products.
