The Riyadh Traffic Directorate has intensified its efforts to catch trucks that violate Riyadh’s entry schedule. Heavy trucks are not allowed into the city during certain hours of the day to avoid congestion in main arteries.

The directorate has been inspecting all the capital’s entrances to control truck entry and impose penalties against violators.

During July, traffic teams booked 3,942 traffic violations for defying the entry schedule. The trucks have been impounded in keeping with the rules and regulations.

The directorate has stressed the importance of abiding by entry times and truck lanes, and preventing the trucks from entering the city during peak traffic hours.

It pointed out that the entry schedule has been having positive results in terms of reducing traffic congestion and promoting safety in the city.

The directorate pointed out that it allows public service vehicles, such as water and gas, to enter the city around the clock. However, traffic congestion, accidents and weather conditions that affect vehicular movement bring these trucks under the control of the entry mechanism.

The schedule includes trucks that offer sewage service and perishable foods, such as dairy products and live birds, in addition to livestock transportation vehicles. These vehicles are prevented from entering the city from 9 a.m. to noon and from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day.

Cement mixing and asphalt trucks are allowed to enter the city from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day.

Other service vehicles are allowed entry from 10 in the evening until five the following morning. The special regulation of truck entry in the capital allows all trucks to enter the city during the weekend, Friday and Saturday, with the exception of the allocated times between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.
