Ambassador Ezzedin H. Tago led the embassy staff recently in celebrating the 118th death anniversary of Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal.

In his message, the Filipino envoy recalled the past celebrations where activities like contests were held re-enacting the series of events which took place on Dec. 30, 1896 in Bagumbayan (now called Luneta).

The activities also included the teachings of Rizal being read to the public to make Filipinos aware of his writings during his time.

The envoy encouraged the Filipinos in the Kingdom to read Rizal’s teachings and commemorate his martyrdom.

The simple celebration started with Second Secretary and Consul Winston S. Almeda giving the opening remarks while the Filipino envoy read the message of President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino lll. This was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony by Ambassador Tago and Consul General Marshall Louis M. Alferez.
