RIYADH: At least five persons have been killed, including two Umrah pilgrims, in separate road accidents in the Kingdom.
Two Indians, returning from Makkah, died instantly when their car met with an accident near the capital city, on Saturday. Three others sustained serious injuries.
Natives of Siwan district in Bihar, Munna and Guddu, died at the scene while three others from Gopalganj district sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment in a city hospital, according to Shahryar Khan, a close relative of Guddu.
Guddu, a project manager in Almarai, was about to go home for Eid Al-Fitr and had gone to perform Umrah with his friends.
“Everything was going well for all of them as they performed Umrah and were returning well but just when they were entering Riyadh his car was hit by a trolley and the duo died on the spot,” Khan said. The families of the deceased in India have been informed of the tragedy.
In another similar incident, a car crash in Afif left three dead and 12 injured, three of whom are in still critical condition. Those injured were rushed to Afif General Hospital, some 483 km west of Riyadh.
Sultan Al-Mughairy, director of the hospital’s public relations department, told the press that the fatalities included two women. He said the accident took place when a passenger bus collided with a truck on the Taif-Riyadh road near the Al-Makiat Center in Afif.
Al-Mughairi said that motorists passing by Afif should exercise extra caution because the 200-bed-capacity hospital has frequently admitted victims of vehicular accidents.
