The families of Keralite employees of Abdul Latif Jameel Company (ALJ) have celebrated the 4th anniversary of their organization, Sadaya, with various cultural activities. Malayalam writer Rubeena Nivas inaugurated the event and praised Sadaya for its continuous efforts to alleviate the suffering of poor people in Kerala.

“Sadaya’s activities are highly appreciable model for others to emulate, especially with regard to the women in Jeddah and how to effectively utilize their free time for their personality and capacity development, and for the wellbeing of others,” said Nivas.

During the event, “Sadaya” which means mercy, gave a cash donation to build two houses for the poor in Kerala. Nivas handed over the amount to Rashid Ali.

Neurologist of King Khaled Hospital, Dr. Abdul Jaleel, gave a PowerPoint presentation on the issue of “strokes” and explained their symptoms and causes. He urged everybody to set aside half an hour a day for brisk walking, and to avoid junk food and other carbonated drinks to live a healthier life. “Getting fit is the best medicine to prevent diseases,” said Dr. Jaleel.

Cijo Mathew led the debate on the topic: “Should media censorship in India be required or not?” Participants were divided into two groups, where one talked in favor and the other opposed it. The men’s team was led by Abu Kunnathadathil while Rajeena Noushad led the ladies team. Both teams were enthusiastic to present their perceptions. The speakers agreed in unison that some sort of media etiquette should be followed, and veracity of the report should be checked prior to airing or reporting the news to the public.

Children enthralled the audience through a dazzling display of their talents. In addition to a welcome dance wearing Saudi traditional dress and Indian costume, there were group songs, solo songs and a drama. A table topics session for children was also held as part of the program.

A satirical skit penned by Shareefa Firoz and directed by Shabnam Basheer was performed by budding actors which drew loud applause from the audience. President Sabeena Suleiman presided over the function.
