Eastern Province Traffic Department spokesman Lt. Col. Ali Zahrani has said that roads operating under the Saher system have experienced a decrease of 80 percent in the number of accidents and deaths since its launch.

He said the system's locations in Dammam and Alkhobar are still in the experimentation stage but will be adopted, adding that Saher cameras monitor speed.

He said the system is located in the middle of the road on either side. “It does not monitor the other side except if it is part of the same road. There have been no accidents since they were erected.”

Zahrani said they were set up for enhanced traffic safety and the protection of life and property.
