AL-AHSA: Saudi mechanics in car workshops form over 40 percent of the labor market in Al-Ahsa, which is a good indication for Saudization efforts.

The Kingdom has generally been depending on expatriates for this type of work, but Al-Ahsa has shown the way, said proprietors of some of the shops.

Munther Al-Khatab, an owner of car maintenance workshop, said: “Saudi mechanicians have proven over the past four years their commitment and serious work. Many of them work even after working hours. They learn and gain experience from foreign mechanics and then manage the workshops by themselves.”

Abdul Aziz Ahmad, another shop owner, said that there is a large turnout of Saudi mechanics to work in the private sector because the market is open and there are few competitors. He confirmed that many customers prefer to deal with Saudi mechanics because of their credibility and commitment to work.

Speaking about his passion to study in the mechanical side, Saudi national Muhammad Al-Hijab said: “It was the only option available to me in college. But after starting the course, I started liking it and searched for all mechanical documentaries to know more about this field. Now, after graduation, I am planning to establish a private workshop.
