Fahed Al-Zaid, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Jordan, said that his embassy has confirmed that they do not have information related to Saudis who have entered Syrian territories. The statement came in response to requests from Saudi families to search for missing relatives in the country.

“No one has contacted the embassy yet,” he was quoted as saying to a local newspaper, adding that they must have entered the country illegally.

“The embassy is in constant contact with Jordanian authorities to prevent Saudis from entering Syria via Jordan.”

He noted that no official survey is available on the number of Saudi families still residing in Syria, saying that many may have left to Lebanon without notifying the embassy.

“The embassy often cannot gather information about Saudi fighters in Syria unless they are reported injured or have been arrested,” he pointed out, confirming that the embassy is following up the condition of those detained in Syrian prisons.

“Implementation of the Saudi-Iraqi prisoner swap is being delayed at the Iraqi parliament, but we are trying to accelerate the process.”

He said that Iraqi authorities released a number of Saudi prisoners who have served their term and others whose involvement in terror operations was unproven.
