RIYADH: A Saudi father named Musaid Al-Fahaiqi has given a reward of SR40,000 to his son Fawzi, a nurse at the Al Jouf General Hospital, for offering his skills and services at the southern border.

Fawzi said he received a letter from the Directorate General of Health Affairs in Al-Jouf inquiring if he was interested in joining other volunteers in rendering service to the troops securing the southern border of the Kingdom.

“I informed my father about the letter and without batting an eyelash he encouraged me to join. He works as director of quality management and patient’s safety at the hospital. He asked me to get permission from the hospital’s top management,” he said.

He subsequently asked permission from Majid Sakran Al-Ruwaidi, Al Jouf General Hospital director, who like his father also encouraged him to join the volunteers in serving the troops securing the southern border from intruders.

“I went to serve at a hospital in the southern border for one month really enjoyed it, to say the least. After that, I and the other volunteers were asked if we were willing to extend our service for two months,” he said.

He added: “We all called our respective families for permission. My father readily agreed,” he said.

He noted that after the end of the two-month extension, he was honored by the hospital where he served and told his father about it: “My father was very happy and sent me a message of thanks for making him proud of me. I also received the amount of SR40,000 which really surprised me.”
