Some 150 Saudi and foreign guests attended a film presentation of Taiwan’s cultural heritage and touristic attractions Wednesday night at the Taiwanese Embassy’s auditorium inside the Diplomatic Quarter (DQ) in Riyadh.

“The presentation aims to make our Saudi friends and other nationals in the Kingdom aware that Taiwan is endowed with unique cultural as well as touristic attractions,” said Representative Lin Jinn Jong of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Saudi Arabia.

Jong noted that there has been an increasing number of visitors to Taiwan from the Kingdom, adding that many of them are Saudi businessmen. The presentation was made on the sidelines of the unveiling of a new Taiwanese SUV Luxgen7 being distributed in the Kingdom by Saleh and Abdulaziz Abahsain Co. Ltd.

The Taiwanese envoy said that Taiwan is home to about 23 million people and has an area of some 36,000 square kilometers, two thirds of which is covered by mountains, including Northeast Asia’s highest peak, Yushan, at the island’s heart.

“Taiwan has been endowed with abundant natural tourist attractions, which have drawn numerous foreign visitors,” he pointed out.

Other attractions in Taiwan include the volcanic areas of Yangmingshan National Park at the outskirts of Taipei; the magnificent Taroko Gorge carved by the Liwu River in Hualien County; the South Sea ambiance of Kending National Park at the island’s southern tip; the beautiful sunrise views and cloud formations at the Alishan National Scenic Area; and the scenic mountains and water at Sun Moon Lake. Moreover, the National Palace Museum in Taipei presents the quintessence of five millennia of Chinese culture.

The presentation was followed by a reception that highlighted Taiwanese food. There was also a product exhibition of Taiwanese companies such as MSI Computer and Taiwan Crystal “LiuLi.”
