The second episode of the documentary Our Concerns, entitled “It’s the Homeland so that The Do Not Return,” will be aired on Saudi One TV tomorrow. The episode with show events related to the terrorist attack on the Abqaiq oil refinery complex on June 24, 2006.
Abqaiq’s primarly function is to remove hydrogen sulfide from crude oil and reduce the vapor pressure, making the crude safer to be shipped in tankers. Abqaiq is the largest such complex in the world and some 75 percent of Saudi Arabia’s oil output passes through the complex.
The show will present never before revealed details of the operation, utilizing videos made during the planning of the attack. The recording puts on full display the group’s insensitivity and total lack of concern about the potential loss of life and the harm to the nation’s economy that would result from a successful attack. Had the terrorists been successful of blowing up oil and gas tanks in the complex, everyone within a radius of 35 kilometers would have been killed. Nevertheless, their behavior and comments in the planning stages indicate that they had little idea just how destructive to human life and the national economy their operation could have been.
The show also takes a look at the deviants’ recruiting tactics and their lack of proper religious training, while looking into their various financing resources such as money laundering, drug trafficking and smuggling.
The program also highlight the strict security approach taken by the state in dealing with terrorism, and some of security agencies activities such as monitoring communications, aerial surveillance and pursuit on the ground.
