RIYADH: A young Saudi, Sattam Al-Zuwaid, received a job offer with an attractive salary following his success in the Gulf Automotive Technical Skill competition.
The contestant has been qualified for the World Skills Competition, said the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC).
The student is still an undergraduate at the Technical College in Riyadh. His distinguished track record is expected to help him in improving his prospects in the automotive technology sector.
Al-Zuwaid said he used to repair cars by diagnosing the problem for two to 11 hours of continuous work amid stiff competition with youths from Oman, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. Such painstaking work helped him win the gold medal contest at the Gulf skills 2016.
“I had a passion for vehicles, especially on how to repair, disassemble and remodel them. After joining the College of Technology, I started specializing in car mechanism and electricity. I am now doing my bachelor’s degree in the same specialty,” he said. “I am so happy to fly the flag of the Kingdom with the hope of bringing honor to my country at the upcoming international level.”
Al-Zuwaid said this record reflects the Saudi youths’ ability to work in all fields if they are given the opportunity.
“My ambition does not stop at merely winning a contest. I want to be on top in new automotive technology and be a successful coach in this area. This will be a great contribution to the Saudization program in the automotive sector.”
GCC Skills 2016 was organized by TVTC at the Technical College in Dammam. It was designed for the GCC states in a number of technical and industrial skills, such as software solutions for business and graphics and welding technology, electrical wiring and networking, cooling and air-conditioning.
