The Saudi Philatelic and Numismatic Society (SPNS) will mark its 50th anniversary at the King Fahd Cultural Center (KFCC) by honoring the editors in chief of leading dailies in English and Arabic in the Kingdom and other GCC countries.

“The event, which will be held at the King Fahd Cultural Center, will be held in conjunction with the celebration of the 84th Saudi National Day on Sept. 23, 2014,” according to Usamah Al-Kurdi, SAPS CEO.

He added that the editors-in-chief have helped in SPNS’s cause by publishing articles on stamp exhibitions held by SPNS in the Kingdom and abroad.

Saad Al-Bazei, a Shoura member and former director-general of the defunct Riyadh Daily, lauded the SPNS’s move to honor editors.

“By doing so, the Saudi stamp society also promotes Saudi culture,” said Al-Bazei, who holds a doctorate degree from Purdue University in the United States.

Honorees include the editors in chief of Arab News, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, Al-Riyadh, Al-Jazirah, Okaz, Al-Youm, Al-Eqtisadiah and Al-Siasah (in Kuwait).

It will be recalled that SPNS also marked the 83rd Saudi National Day last year by holding a cultural exhibition in collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Culture and Information.

Significant cultural events during the time of King Abdulaziz, King Saud, King Faisal, King Khaled, King Fahd and King Abdullah were presented.

Thirteen Arab countries participated with Ahmed Kilani, an engineer, representing the Kingdom, who came second. Mustapha Saleh from Egypt and Hassan Al-Naimi from Qatar received the gold and bronze medals, respectively.

The society also held the 3rd Arab Stamp Exhibition at the Rashid Mall in Madinah in collaboration with the Saudi Post.

Shaikh Al-Hassan, the society’s media and PR consultant, said that SPNS has become a leading organization in the Kingdom in holding stamp exhibitions locally and abroad.
