JEDDAH: Several Saudi women have opened the first-ever women’s restaurant in Buraidah, which is making its mark in this competitive sector.

The restaurant, which was opened about three months ago, has become popular because of the quality food and central location. Customers are only women, but many men have opted for the efficient delivery service and local cuisine.

Asmaa Ibrahim, one of the owners, said they had employed women with talent and skill in the kitchen. She said the eatery has become popular because of the food and delivery service. She said they found a licensed location through the municipality to provide a variety of dishes suitable for all customers, including buffets for special occasions.

Nawal Eid, a partner, said she uses the restaurant to market her own products, and that it was needed because it creates jobs and can counter the control of “99 percent of the market by expats. The hope is that the Ministry of Labor and Social Development encourages such businesses and gradual Saudization in this sector.”

Ali Al-Jarallah, Abdulaziz Al Al-Shawi and Sami Al-Qareen said that such businesses should be encouraged because they would create interest for others with talent to start their own projects.

They said that banks and other financial institutions should support such projects, and that there were many capable men and women available. The restaurant sector can create many jobs for citizens, they said.
