Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) ranked first among international carriers for on-time performance in July 2014, said Abdul Aziz Al-Hazmi, CEO of Saudi Airlines Company.

He said Saudia won the position based on a report published by Flightstats, which is a leader in global flight and airport information services.

“The success of strategic plans and operational systems throughout the year and during peak seasons paved the way for Saudia to achieve a higher position in flightstats.com’s classification,” Al-Hazmi said.

The national flag carrier came second in June.

Flightstats.com showed that Saudia operated 15,624 scheduled flights during July, achieving an overall on-time performance of 90.7 percent.

“The month of July represented the peak summer season, which was a big challenge for the airline. We overcame the challenge through advanced planning and good coordination between the various sectors,” the CEO said.

Saudia operates more than 500 flights daily to domestic and international destinations, with an average on-time performance of 90 percent. FlightStats.com evaluates the performance of more than 150,000 flights operated daily by different airlines worldwide.

Skytrax, another international organization, has given Saudia four-star airline status this year. Saudia also received Skytrax awards for the best economy class seat, the best first class amenities and most highly progressed airline.
