The 150,000-member Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) called recently on the Filipino engineers to participate in the implementation of various projects expected to be completed by 2019.

“Filipino engineers are active and professional. They’re dependable, as they participate in the Kingdom various developmental projects,” said Abdulrahman Zaid Yousef Al-Arfaj, SCE board member.

Al-Arfaj, a Saudi engineer, made the statement during the Structural Engineering Summit held on July 29 and 30 at the Dhahran International Hotel in the Eastern Province. He also noted the inclusion of expatriate engineers to SCE boards.

The event, attended by 80 engineers, was organized by the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines in Saudi Arabia (ASEP-SA) in cooperation with the SCE and Philippine Council of Engineers and Architects (PCEA).

Highly regarded structural engineers Carlos Villaraza and Anthony Pimentel graced the event as technical speakers. Villaraza, ASEP president, shared his knowledge on wind and earthquake engineering, which are vital factors in structural designs.

Pimentel, ASEP past president, spoke about facades design on high-rise buildings, as well as new software used in structural designs.

Mario A. Balboa, PCEA chairman, presented the SCE structure and its framework along the roles and responsibilities of PCEA-KSA.
