RIYADH: The Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency (SCEE) has launched a campaign to cut the cost of electrical energy consumption in the Kingdom.
In a statement, the SCEE reported that the building sector consumes about 80 percent of the electrical energy in the Kingdom during summer and holidays.
“The building sector consumes 52 percent of the electricity in the Kingdom during summer and 28 percent during holidays,” the SCEE said in a statement.
It added that “the cost is high by any stretch of the imagination and that there are ways to reduce it by efficient use of electrical energy.”
The SCEE was established within the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology to rationalize and improve efficiency of energy consumption in the Kingdom. The SCEE said that consumers must buy an air conditioner of high efficiency in terms of energy consumption by choosing a unit with the most number of stars.
“They can also buy split and multi-split air conditioning systems that offer superior performance. Split type air conditioning is also known for lower costs,” the SCEE said.
It’s also known for energy efficiency and comfort in stylish solutions conforming to all interior spaces and lifestyles.
Due to the popularity of split type air conditioning, demand for window or wall air conditioners has decreased. Sources said government entities have destroyed more than 15,000 air conditioning units without energy efficiency labels.
