JEDDAH: The Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTNH) issued its 10th annual report which included information on its initiatives and projects, including work in the fields of tourism, archaeology, museum, architectural heritage, crafts and handicrafts, exhibitions and conferences for 1437.
According to the report, SCTNH has completed the formal development of the tourism industry and national heritage, and has made great strides in organizing these sectors and their development at the national and regional levels within the framework of the overall general tourism development strategy approved by the Kingdom in 1425, and revised and updated recently with the participation of the private and public sectors, and the strategy for the development of museums approved by the SCTNH in 1426.
The SCTNH said its new regulation, issued in 1429, added functions, and supervisory, executive and regulatory tasks in the sectors of hospitality, tourism, museums, architectural heritage, traditional crafts, funding, travel agencies, tour operators, tour guides and others.
According to the commission, this report briefs all parties concerned with total transparency on its programs and initiatives, and the projects it has implemented since its establishment.
Based on the recommendations of the strategy for national tourism development, SCTNH has developed its organizational foundation to enable it fulfill its responsibilities.
The commission explained that the principal purpose is to supervise and promote tourism in the Kingdom, and to work on strengthening the role of the tourism sector in the economy, and remove impediments to its growth to be an important contributor to the national economy, in addition to activating its contributions to the cultural and economic development of the country.
The SCTNH has sought the development of a number of tourist paths with its branches working across the regions, in cooperation with the relative partners to develop four strategic sectors — Red Sea tourism, mountain tourism, desert and the Arab Gulf tourism.
The report said that the commission adopted an initiative to take care of the cultural heritage in order to bring about a fundamental leap in the cultural heritage of the Kingdom by highlighting the essential cultural dimension of the Kingdom through a series of projects and programs such as an outreach plan to raise awareness on national heritage and the other elements of national tourism, as well as restoring the Kingdom’s national archaeological items from abroad.
