RIYADH: The Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTNH) and the Saudi Judicial Society (SJS) have signed an agreement to generate public awareness about national heritage, tourism and antiquities.
The agreement was signed by Faisal bin Mansur Al-Fadil, director general at the Department of Legal Affairs in the SCTNH, and Hamad bin Mohammad Al-Razin, the chair of the society, an SCTNH official said Thursday.
He informed the press that the agreement aims to encourage the exchange of information between the two organizations on mutually related issues, organizing joint workshops for introducing regulations about tourism, museums, antiquities and urban heritage and for participating in a range of conferences, symposiums and seminars held by the two parties.
Commenting on the agreement, Al-Fadil said: "The importance of this agreement lies in raising awareness among different groups in society, especially investors and tourists, about the regulations on tourism, antiquities and urban heritage and the rights and obligations of everyone in relation to these."
Echoing the sentiment, Al-Razin noted: "Through this agreement, the SJS aims to strengthen the role of mutual work with various departments in a way that serves Saudi regulations and raises people's awareness about them."
In a related effort to increase public awareness on the diversity and vulnerability of cultural heritage, the Kingdom marked the World Heritage Day this year by organizing the heritage and arts forum here at the King Fahd Cultural Center under the theme “Honor your heritage through museums.” This event focussed on raising public awareness on the importance of preserving te national heritage as well as enhancing the role of museums in the development and preservation of cultural heritage by highlighting its importance among the members of the local community and building strategic partnerships to encourage this.
