JEDDAH: The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) expects historical loads on power supply in the entire Kingdom in coming 10 days due to the hot weather and opening of schools for the new academic year, according to a website.

“Maximum historical loads expected during coming ten days,” the company stated on Twitter.

“With the mercury rising, the dependence on power supply has increased and at the same time the schools opened on Sunday for the new academic year.”

It said that the heat wave, which has engulfed the region, has coincided with the opening of schools and this will primarily contribute to registering historical loads. However, it has confirmed that it was fully prepared and its efforts continue around-the-clock for meeting the expected huge demand.

The control center of the electrical system of the Kingdom registered unprecedented loads on Sunday. The highest load reached was 56,500 megawatt, which is 7.7 percent more load over the highest recorded load of the summer of 2013.

It has said that that the company, with its capacities, and human and technical strength faced the huge demand and increased load.

It has further strengthened its systems to meet such demands.
