A seminar on women’s endoscopic surgery opened here Monday to familiarize gynecology and obstetrics professionals on the latest developments involving the technique.

Sami Badawood, director of health affairs, opened the event, which was organized by the Aziziah Maternity and Children’s Hospital in Jeddah.

Badawood said all hospitals under the directorate have achieved remarkable progress in various medical specialties including laparoscopic surgery on women. This technique is also known as keyhole surgery.

“The most important specialization that the Aziziah hospital has been focusing on in recent years has been in the field of laparoscopic surgery,” he said. Badawood also commended the hospital administration for hosting the event.

Ahmed Al-Harbi, director of the Aziziah hospital, said the conference would familiarize doctors and workers in gynecology and obstetrics on the latest techniques.

Local and international experts would deliver lectures and papers during the four-day conference aimed at doctors, nurses and midwives, Al-Harbi said.

He said the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties has approved it for 30 continuous medical education hours.
