The Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association (AMUAA) in Jeddah recently held a reception to honor a visiting senior alumnus and former member of the Indian Parliament.

The event for Waseem Ahmed was held to coincide with the birth anniversary of the university’s founder, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. The alumni remembered Sir Syed’s contribution and reaffirmed their commitment to his mission.

Ahmed recounted his days at Aligarh and reminded his fellow members to maintain the character of the university and develop the Muslim community.

Farzan Rizvi, president of the AMUAA, urged the alumni to continue spreading Khan’s message. He also highlighted the contribution of Ahmed as a student leader and politician.

Aqeel Jamil, secretary of the association, welcomed the gathering and urged them to follow the policy of each member teaching another one about the vision of the university.

A visiting alumnus from Chicago, Shahid Siddiqui, urged the alumni in Jeddah to help open schools in India for needy Muslim children, as they are doing in the United States.

Azizur Rab, vice president of the AMUAA, presented the vote of thanks. He said Sir Syed Day would be commemorated in Jeddah on Nov. 21.

Senior alumni Imtiaz Ahmed and Nooruddin Khan presented a memento to Ahmed and a bouquet to Farha Ahmed.
