JEDDAH: The four terrorists who were killed during a raid by security forces on their hideout near Makkah on Thursday have been identified as Saudi citizens, known for their extremists views and involvement in terror operations, the Interior Ministry has announced.
Police have also named the Saudi security officer killed by two unidentified assailants outside Maysan’s police station, south of Taif on Thursday, hours after the security forces had carried out the raid in Wadi Noman near Makkah where the four were killed.
The slain officer is Corp. Khalaf Al-Harithi. No one has claimed responsibility for his death.
In the Makkah raid four terrorists died — two during a fire fight with the security forces, and two others who had blown themselves up with their suicide belts.
The raid in Makkah took place simultaneously with one in Jeddah where two suspects were arrested.
The ministry said that all of the four gunmen who were killed on Thursday in Wadi Noman were on the list of wanted terrorists.
Saeed Ayed Saeed Al-Do’air Al-Shahrani, 46, who was placed on the ministry’s most-wanted list in February, was among the dead terrorists.
He was involved in the bombing of mosque used by Special Emergency Forces in Asir in August last year, the bombing of Najran’s Al-Mash’had Mosque in October, and the killing of a retired security officer in February, Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki, ministry spokesman, said in a statement.
Also deceased is Mubarak Abdullah Fahad Al-Dosari, 25, who had also been placed on the wanted list and had been a fugitive since September last year; and Mohammed Suleiman Al-Saqri Al-Enezi, 46, also a fugitive and wanted by the government.
Al-Enezi was wanted in connection with the shooting attack on worshipers inside the Al-Mustafa mosque in Al-Ahsa province in November last year, the bombing of Dammam’s Al-Anoud mosque in May last year, and the bombing of Al-Qadeeh’s Imam Ali bin Abi Talib mosque in Al-Qatif province in the same month. He was an explosives expert, said Al-Turki.
The fourth man is Adel Abdullah Ibrahim Al-Mejmaj, 27. He was arrested in September 2012 for taking part in rallies held in Qassim, where protesters demanded the release of some detainees.
He was linked to Yasser Ali Al-Houdi, who was killed in Bisha last week. Al-Mejmaj had been traveling around disguised as a woman and constantly wore an explosives belt.
The ministry spokesman said that security forces seized various items at the terrorists’ hideout in Makkah including two explosive belts, 15 explosive devices, four Kalashnikov rifles, two pistols, a wide range of ammunition, and two bags containing aluminum powder and metal pieces used as part of improvised explosive devices.
The ministry is determined to track down and prosecute criminals, added Al-Turki.
He praised citizens and expatriates for cooperating with the security forces to apprehend terrorists in the country.
