A high-tech “smart security patrol system,” linked to Saher, was launched on Wednesday. It will monitor traffic violations and detect stolen vehicles.

“The smart patrols will have cameras to monitor traffic violations and will cover all regions of the Kingdom,” said Maj. Gen. Osman Al-Mohrij, director of Public Security, who inaugurated the system.

Such patrols are the first of their kind in the Gulf and Arab states, said Lt. Col. Mohsen Al-Shahrani, director of media affairs.

Meanwhile, a number of electronic traffic services were launched in eastern Riyadh on Wednesday. They will facilitate the uploading of medical reports for the issuance and renewal of driving licenses and will be directly linked to the health sector.

There will also be an electronic form to report traffic accidents, which will be integrated with the Najm system and insurance companies. An e-service for transfer of vehicle ownership will also be available.

The launch of e-services is expected to expedite about 40,000 transactions per month, with a waiting period of no more than two minutes per service.

Al-Mohrij said courts specializing in traffic accidents would be responsible for handing out the final ruling between people and police in case of disputes.

The e-complaint service against Saher will be open next Sunday where complainants can receive clarifications through SMSs or e-mails.

Meanwhile, a new system that allows residents to take photos of traffic accidents and send them to relevant authorities through an electronic application is being launched. It will be limited to cases with no casualties. The photos will reach Najm through a mutual application with the Traffic Directorate. The system will start functioning in February, said Al-Mohrij.

There are rules regarding the angles of the photos. No less than four photos will be needed. The application is available on iOS phones.

The application is being tested by Apple to ensure its efficiency before being made available to the public.
